
Michael Isa is the multi-entrepreneur who runs Skarphagens cykel, a well-known gem in Norrköping. The company was founded in the 1990s by Michael's uncle, who ran it on his own until 2006, when Michael asked if he could become a partner - even though he had no experience whatsoever in the bicycle industry. When he first stepped onto Skarphagens cykel , Michael could barely change a tire, but he is now an expert on bikes.
Today, Michael Skarphagens cykel is run by himself and he has expanded the range to include bicycles for all ages as well as electric and vintage bicycles. In the beginning, sales were a little slow and the company lived on recommendations for a long time. But thanks to the lessons he learned from running businesses in the past, clear goals, marketing and networking, things took off. In addition to selling bicycles and repairs, Skarphagens Cykel also has a painting center where profile bicycles for companies are produced, something Michael is alone in offering as a bicycle shop.
"I have always been a service-oriented person. Before Skarphagens cykel , I ran a video store, which I sold in 2006 and moved on to this. But there has always been a core of focusing on customer service and offering yourself. Because the more you offer yourself, your service, expertise and time. The more you get back. I think that's the key to growing your business. Then you have to dare to invest, network and find what makes your business unique. For me, it's been the paint center, always treating customers right and having an eye for the long term."
How did you get in touch with Froda?
"The first time I came into contact with Froda was when I was scrolling on social media. After a while, I went in and immersed myself in what Froda offers and thought it seemed interesting. At the same time, an investment I wanted to make arose, which made it a natural opportunity to test. I called and asked some mixed questions to the customer service and got incredibly good help. I applied and everything was so smooth. I did not think it could be this smooth. It's a security and very nice to have Froda behind me."


What is the best thing about being an entrepreneur?
"The freedom. I control my own time, get to decide for myself and everything that it means to be an entrepreneur. Then I'm driven by building companies and seeing them grow in turnover. It energizes me every day to know that all the hard work and effort you put in is paying off in terms of customers coming back and you getting great reviews. It makes me happy and proud of what I do."
What does the future hold for Skarphagens cykel?
"As a kid, I was told that if I aim for the stars, I will at least get to the moon. Always setting goals ahead is important to me. It's a key to why Skarphagens cykel has grown as it has. Sometimes I stop and look around the premises and realize how far I've come. Since 2006, I have increased the turnover eight times over, but I am not satisfied. The goal is to become the biggest in Norrköping. Once that's achieved, it's on to the next goal," says Michael with a smile.
